Arizona Science Center Presents Fascinating New Exhibit:
Real Pirates, An exhibition from National Geographic

Arizona Science Center is bringing “Real Pirates: The Untold Story of the Whydah from Slave Ship to Pirate Ship” to the Valley. A touring exhibition organized by National Geographic and Arts and Exhibitions Internationals (AEI) LLC, sponsored locally by Arizona Republic and media partner Cox, the one-of-a-kind exhibition explores early 18th-centruy piracy and more than 200 artifacts recovered from the ocean floor.

One of the most advanced ships of her day, the Whydah sank in a storm in 1717 with bounty from more than 50 captured ships. Recovered off the coast of Cape Code in 1984 by Barry Clifford, the Whydah is the first authenticated pirate ship discovered in U.S. waters.

The exhibition features a walk-through of the pirate ship and more than 200 artifacts including cannons, weaponry, jewelry, belt bucks, the actual bell from the ship, surgical tools and real pirate gold!

“Real Pirates” Exhibit Runs Oct. 2, 2011 – Jan. 15, 2012
