It was with great pleasure that Mom’s Zone was able to visit the new Phoenix Children’s Hospital, which is celebrating its Grand Opening TODAY, Wednesday June, 1.  As a mom, it was a real eye opener to see how each part of the hospital has been designed with children in mind. I was extremely impressed with how they have not forgotten the parents that endure their child’s stay in a hospital.

Today, June 1, 2011, Phoenix Children’s Hospital is unveiling its new strategic alliance with St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. This means that beginning this week staff will begin to transition pediatric patients from St. Joseph’s to Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Approximately 30 patients are being transferred by ambulance to become the first to stay and be treated in the tower’s new private patient rooms. Simultaneously, a total of 28 St. Joseph’s pediatric specialists and approximately 200 additional staff members of Phoenix Children’s, are completing the strategic alliance that unites the two organizations’ pediatric programs into one exceptional pediatric health care delivery system. The new building is 11 stories high!  With 465 licensed beds right now, it is already the largest children’s hospital in the southwest!

I was able to take my 6 year old son along with me for this behind the scenes tour and he was blown away.  He said it was like a really nice hotel.  Indeed it is colorful, fun and clearly has had tremendous thought put into it.  It was really touching to see the parents’ areas that are made to be more of a warm and comforting area for parents to recharge their batteries and get a few moments away without really being more than a few feet away from their children.

The clinics are really a breakthrough in my opinion.  I have had to go to other hospital clinics before and they are confusing and not at all patient friendly.  Drab would be an understatement.  The clinics at Phoenix Children’s Hospital  are easy to find, very accessible, in fun colors and the staff are out and available to help in any way possible.  The same bright colors and easy accessibility extends into the patient rooms as well.

Colors abound as well as exciting hidden art and treasures for the eyes.  My son really enjoyed looking around.  He has had to be in a hospital before and for him to feel this comfortable was really reassuring to me.  None of us wants to be in a hospital for any reason but should you find that you need to take your child or children to a hospital be sure to take them to the one place where their specialties and sub specialties are nothing but pediatric care.  Nationally recognized last week, Phoenix Children’s Hospital was ranked among the top 50 children’s hospitals in half of the specialties reported in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospitals rankings.  You can find out more HERE.

Please look over the pictures and videos to find out for yourself why next time you find yourself in need of a pediatric hospital, you won’t hesitate to go straight over to Phoenix Children’s Hospital – where they offer treatment and world-class medical care that’s “100 Percent for Children.”
