Phoenix Children’s Hospital and Mercy Care Plan announced today that they have reached agreement on a new contract that adds the hospital and the Phoenix Children’s Medical Group to the Medicaid provider’s network, effective June 1.

Mercy Care Plan, a nonprofit health plan established in 1985 by Catholic Healthcare West (CHW) and Carondelet Health Network, has been administering Medicaid services under a contract with the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) since 1985.  It currently has approximately 340,000 members.

“We are pleased to announce this agreement, which enables us to expand our ability to provide high-quality health care to children in Arizona,” said Ethel Hoffman, Vice President of Managed Care and Business Development for Phoenix Children’s Hospital.  “We are excited to work with Mercy Care Plan and offer families access to our health system.”

“We strive to provide our members with access to high-quality hospitals and physicians,” said Mark Fisher, chief executive officer of Mercy Care Plan.  “Phoenix Children’s Hospital has a well-deserved reputation for providing a full spectrum of wellness, prevention, acute care, rehabilitation and restorative care to the community.”

Phoenix Children’s Hospital and CHW executed an agreement earlier this year to unite their respective pediatric programs within Maricopa County, with services centralized at the Phoenix Children’s campus.

About Phoenix Children’s Hospital

Phoenix Children’s Hospital, ranked in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospitals, is Arizona’s only licensed children’s hospital, providing world-class care in more than 40 pediatric specialties to children from throughout the state and region. Phoenix Children’s expansion has met the needs of the Southwest’s rapid population growth. The signature element of the expansion is a new 11-story, 750,000-square-foot tower which will enable the hospital to grow from 345 licensed beds today to a total of 626 licensed beds once the project is complete. The hospital’s expansion also includes an aggressive physician recruitment effort and new satellite centers in high- growth areas of the Valley.
